The declining gender ratio in India has become a concern for every category. Several schemes are being implemented by the government for the study, health and other needs of women. The central government has launched the Sukanya Enrichment Scheme to encourage the study of girls.
The purpose of the Sukanya Samruddhi Yojana is to facilitate the study of daughters and to easily cover the expenses incurred on their marriage. Under the scheme, an account can be opened at the Sukanya Enrichment Scheme near the Post Office for the study and marriage of the daughter. A separate counter will also be opened in Suvidya Center to open an account in any post office of the postal department. After submitting the required documents, an account can be opened.
This money will have to be deposited for 14 years after opening the account and this account will be matched only when the daughter is 21 years old.
- Under the rules of the scheme, the daughter can withdraw half the money as she is 18 years old.
- After 21 years the account will be closed and the money will be returned to the guardian.
- If the daughter gets married between the ages of 18 and 21 then the account will close at that time.
